Have you ever gone to a really good restaurant with a talented chef and marveled at the plate that he or she has created for you? Have you ever watched a competitive cooking show and been fascinated at how the chef knew how to pair an unfamiliar ingredient with another to create an outstanding dish? Have you looked at the plates of food that come out of your kitchen at home and wondered how you could elevate those dishes like the pros?
So did I.
For many of us, the idea of preparing a high-end meal at home using fresh ingredients and advanced techniques seems daunting. After all, professional chefs have years of training, and the great chefs have years upon years of experience.
The truth is that never before has there been so much information at our disposal to be able to learn about food and cooking, and to experiment with those ideas and techniques in our own kitchens. There are television channels dedicated to food and cooking. Talented chefs have books, and blogs, and YouTube channels breaking down their techniques. There are cooking classes for us ordinary folks at all skill levels, both online and in a city near you. While the training and experience is certainly necessary to collect a paycheck as a working chef, the reality is that you don’t need to go to culinary school to elevate your ordinary dishes at home to something extraordinary.
At uncheffed, I’m motivated by one guiding principle:
You don’t need to be a chef to create amazing food.
Whether it’s learning about concepts, ingredients, or techniques, I hope you will follow along as we take this culinary journey in to the wonderful world of food together.
